Decided to do some trimming of roses, a few shrubs, etc before I put out the trash tonight. I was almost finished when I decided to pull out a few weeds along the front of the house, behind the ficus tree and some rose bushes. Big mistake. As I was finishing, I stepped back and lost my balance. Next thing I knew I was on the ground…well part of me was on the ground. My right leg and thigh was embedded in a rose bush.

After getting myself unhooked and into the house, I realized I had no skin left on my right elbow, blood everywhere and tons of thorns and lots of cuts in my right leg…and lots of pain. I got in the bathtub and pulled out the thorns under running water and tried to clean up all the blood. Then I noticed the 4″-5″ gash on my leg just above my knee and to the right. Apparently I also sliced my leg with the hand-held pruners that I was holding at the time I fell. Thankfully I had a tetanus shot 4-5 years ago so don’t need to worry about that.

Coated all the cuts with an antibiotic cream. Then, I realized that I hurt all over the place and that there were numerous other small cuts on my hands and on my other leg. Took some ibuprofin and, after putting out the trash, soaked in a warm bath and then bandaged up my elbow. While I feel a bit better, I still hurt. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow and will decide then whether I go to work. If I’m not feeling lots better than I do tonight, I’ll be hanging out at home.

Just in time for summer and shorts and my legs are all cut up.
