A year ago at this time I was recuperating at Huntington Hospital after surgery to remove a football sized tumor (Chuck!) from my one of my ovaries along with the removal of my ovaries and uterus–a complete hysterectomy. While the surgery went well (no cancer!), that was the start of about 2 weeks of pure hell as I had numerous post-operative problems. The worst was the uncontrolled vomiting resulting in re-admission to the hospital when my kidneys started to shut down and I became dehydrated. I am sooo glad that part of my life is over! It seems like an eternity since that day…and at times it seems like just a short time ago.

Back to today…

My yard is looking spectacular! Since I couldn’t do much in the way of gardening last year, I sort of went overboard this year. Everything is doing well and I expect summer will be just wonderful spent out back with all the beautiful flowers–especially the roses! The veggies are all growing quite well and I’ll be excited when I’m able to start harvesting all the crops.

Out front is a bit of a different story. Most everything looks good, but I’m unable to put in the portulaca’s (moss roses) and can’t do much weeding due to a nest of Bluejays right outside my front door! They are dive-bombing the cats and attacking me every time I step outside! I’m going to try wearing a hat tomorrow to see if that helps. I’ll be extremely grateful when those baby birds are out on their own–and hope the cats don’t get to them before they’ve learned to fly!
