In talking with my sister, Sally, this morning, she mentioned a treatment her dog groomer does called furminating that keeps animals from shedding. She commented that it would probably be too expensive to do routinely, especially if you have a lot of animals.

Had to go to PetSmart today to pick up cat and dog food and decided to look at their grooming tools to see if I could find something better than the brushes I’ve been using. Found a comb that looked like it might work well and it was only $5.99. As I continued down the aisle I saw it–The Furminator! Only problem was that it was $35.00! Oh well. I put back the $5.99 comb and bought it.

Tried it on Puto first. As old as he is, Puto doesn’t have much of an undercoat of fur, so it worked but didn’t draw off lots of hair. Then I tried it on Loki…OMG!!! Biggest problem is that Loki likes to wander around the room when getting brushed. After about 1/2 hour of brushing with The Furminator, my family room floor was filled with Loki fur! I then brushed Baby and, surprisingly, she only produced about 1/4 the amount fur as Loki.

Vacuumed the floor and kept the vacuum sitting out so that I could have at it again when I furminate Honey later tonight…and Murphy tomorrow after he dries out from his bath. Somehow need to figure a way to keep Loki in one spot since it is recommended that furmination happen every 4-6 weeks and all that fur flying around the room was insane!

If you have a pet, buy The Furminator.
