New all time temperatures were reached today…109 degrees in Pasadena. And it’s going to be just as hot tomorrow, and Monday, and Tuesday! My family room was at 93 degrees when I thought to check at about 8 pm. The furniture is so hot that it feels like it’s been sitting in a room where a furnace has been turned on high for hours…but I guess that’s sorta what’s been happening. My bedroom is tolerable since I have the window a/c unit there, but the rest of the house is miserable.

At about 7:30 pm a huge wind began blowing. I got the outdoor umbrella closed, but it caught the new shade structure and of course blew it over and into the pool! I got it out and taken apart with only a small tear in one of the corners. And the pool is loaded with leaves since the guy behind me had his gardeners trim the bushes along the back fence and they left lots of leaves and branches laying atop the bushes! And, of course, they didn’t trim anything on my side…meaning it looks like hell along the top of the fence. I’ll trim it all up once the temps cool down, and I’ll dump as much as possible over onto his side since his gardeners left such a mess on my side. Meanwhile the pool is a mess and I’ll need to get out there early tomorrow to skim.

Got up early today and got the remainder of the ceiling painted in my bedroom and got a bit of cleaning done in the kitchen. Got most of the yard and plants watered, but couldn’t do too much else. Just too damn hot!

There was a stage 1 power alert today and some people actually lost power. Patrick and Veronica had one of their a/c units go out (the one in their living room), so they are living in their bedroom. I figure I’ll just go in and out of the pool to stay cool if I lose power. The pool feels like bath water, though, so it’s not as cooling as everyone thinks it would be.

Talked to Kevin. They had their home inspection today. Nothing drastically wrong that will keep them from buying the house. Signs of rodents in the attic and crawl space under the house, so they will need to get someone in to do a cleanup and then will need to caulk any openings to the outside. Other stuff is mostly cosmetic. Looks like the purchase will happen and they should have the house toward the latter part of August.

PS – Just went outside to bring in the cats and checked the temperature. It’s 80 degrees–at midnight!
