Started off last Sunday with a trip to the mall to get Patrick measured for his tux for Kevin’s wedding. Then we headed to the T-Mobile store to get my first cellphone! Technically, it isn’t really my first one as Patrick gave me one that he had purchased as part of his plan many years ago. Actually, one of his friends used the phone and, when she left the area, I sort of inherited it. But I never really used it and only had it for a few months.

But this phone is all mine. I am slowly but surely learning how to use it. I know how to make a call and answer a call, but that’s about it so far. Still have to program my voicemail and learn how to add names and numbers to my address book. But that will happen when I take the time to sit down and read the book. Just need to deal with it before heading off to Vegas.

I can’t believe the wedding is now less than 3 weeks away! If I’m starting to get anxious/nervous, Kevin and Soula must be panicking at this point! I think we’ll all be fine once we arrive in Vegas. It’s just the anticipation and knowing we/they have so many odds and ends to deal with before it’s time to leave. Fortunately I am taking off work 2 days before leaving. Am hopeful that will mean I won’t be up all night the night before…

Patrick headed over to the home of one of his friends on Tuesday. About 1/2 hour later I got the call from another friend, Brett, telling me not to worry and that Patrick wasn’t hurt badly, but that he had cut his hand and needed to go to the hospital. Great.

He was able to go to the Kaiser office about 10 minutes away, getting in right before they closed for the evening. They cleaned the cut (about a 1″ slice into his little finger, about 1/2″ deep), put in disposable stitches and gave him a tetanus shot. And it only cost him $25…far better than his last trip to Huntington Hospital. The cut is healing nicely and should only produce a small scar.

The rest of the week was calm at home, but crazy at work. My coworker, Christina, was out sick all week resulting in my office turning into problem-solving central. We had a big event Friday night at the church along with another on Sunday–both celebrations of Ed Bacon’s 10 years as rector of All Saints–so I lost about a day just dealing with last minute check requests and other odds and ends. Additionally I had to deal with the damn finance committee meeting on Thursday at 7 am. Yuk!

I went to the Friday night party and had fun dancing and schmoozing with coworkers and parishioners but was glad to get home and have it all over with. The weekend was very welcome!

Spent Saturday on the phone with family and then watched 2 movie musicals on Turner Classic Moviews–Swing Time and Showboat. Too much relaxing on Saturday resulted in lots of work on Sunday. Started cleaning up the side of the house, tearing out weeds and throwing out trash that has collected over the winter. Still have about one more day till it’s all done, but I can see lots of progress being made.

Found two black widow spiders and a lizard amongst all the trash. The lizard survived, but the spiders are no longer with us. No doubt there will be a few more before all the cleaning is complete. Still haven’t seen any more rats though. But the rake is waiting to help with their demise should they decide to come up for air!
