Sophie was spayed on Tuesday. She came home wearing an E-collar which lasted for about 5 hours. I’m sure it would have come off sooner, but she was still drugged enough from the anesthetic so that she slept for awhile. I tried to keep the cone on her, but she was having none of that and ripped it off again. So I gave up for the night.

I read online that some people use baby onesies to keep their animals from messing around with stitches. So I stopped at Target on my way home from work the next day. I don’t know how all those people online were able to get the onesie on their animals, but Sophie let me know in no uncertain terms that she was not going to wear one of these! After numerous scratches, I decided what would be would be and just left her alone. So far all has worked out well. I kept her on pain meds for the first day or two and then stopped that as well. She seems to be healing well and is almost back to normal. She’s eating like a little pig and runs and jumps up onto everything! I’ll take her back on the 11th to have her stitches removed.

And then we’ll start teaching her how to go outdoors. I’ll probably block the back fence with bricks so she can’t crawl under it. Otherwise, I’m hoping Nate will teach her the ropes. Once she figures out about coming inside for her food, I think she’ll be fine…provided she doesn’t decide to wander too far from home.

And there will now be no babies. Having kittens around is lots of fun, but they eventually turn into cats. The three cats I have are more than enough…for now!
