Finally finished getting my backyard flowerbed planted. Patrick and Veronica came over on Saturday and Patrick helped me to dig out the huge succulent plant that took over about a third of the flowerbed. I spent the rest of the day digging out roots and rocks. Yesterday they came over again and we got the bed ready for planting and I put in 22 daylilies, 1 lilies of the Nile and 3 lilac bushes. Took a break and then planted 12 tomato plants, 4 bell pepper plants, 4 zucchini plants and 4 cucumber plants.

Today I planted some alyssum and portulaca along the edge of the bed as well as some snapdragons at the back. The daylilies will take awhile to fill in, so the snapdragons will help add some color and greenery this year. Fertilized and watered everything, relaid the brick toppers on the wall and put up some small fencing to keep Murphy out. Have to anchor the fencing more securely since Murphy has already figured out how to knock it down and get into the flowerbed to do his business. Dog poop really isn’t my fertilizer of choice.

Also planted two large round flowerpots with geraniums and alyssum to put on the back wall next to the pool. Then planted two long pots with the same that are on the wall above the large flowerbed. Hopefully they will stay there and won’t be knocked off by my asshole neighbor since he feels the wall is his property even though it’s behind his fence and only visible on my side. We can only hope.

Still have a bit more planting of a few flowers to do as well as laying down the bark nugget mulch everywhere, but that will have to wait for another day. And have lots of cleanup yet to do.

Right now, though, I’m going to watch the Laker game. Even though they lost the other night, it was amazing to be at the playoffs. I’m hoping for a win tonight so the Lakers can come home and win it all on Wednesday. Kobe’s got the first point in the game. Let’s hope that’s a sign of things to come.
