I’m exhausted tonight after working in the yard a lot over the past two days. Mostly what I’ve been doing is digging out some kind of a wild fern that took root and spread over a flowerbed in the backyard. Turns out that this damnable plant has roots that spread down and out and everywhere! And the roots are unbelievably strong. I actually broke my shovel while trying to dig them out!

I did get them all out and also was able to clean out about half of the large bed where I took out the cypress trees. I’ve collected three large buckets filled with rocks and boulders after digging and loosening up the soil. It’s no wonder I always had trouble getting anything to grow in that bed. I’ll finish up the cleanout of the rest of the bed this week and hope to be able to start planting this weekend.

I went to OSH on Saturday and bought 12 bags of mulch/bark mini-nuggets. They had a great sale (buy 1 get 1 free) so I decided to get enough to take care of all my planting beds as well as all my roses out front. I have all the supplies and plants. Now I just need to finish the prep work so I can get everything in the ground.

Actually, it’s probably a good thing that the weekend is over. My back aches and I’m exhausted. Don’t know that my body could take another full day of physical labor!

Oh, the swelling in my hand from the cat bite is finally diminishing. It’s still a bit sore, but nothing like it was last week. Maybe all the yard work helped.
