I’m about to fall asleep and it’s only 8:30 pm.  This was a brutal day, beginning at 9 am with work in the driveway on the Christmas street decoration and finally ending at about 7 pm.  But finally we’re finished.  Still have about half of them sitting in my driveway waiting to be picked up by the various assholes on the street who chose not to help out with the construction.  Amazing, though, how some people showed up as we finished wanting to know if they could pick theirs up with no amount of shame over not helping.

This will be the absolute last time I ever do this.  I’ll help out with a bit of the work when it happens again 5-10 years from now, but that’s it.  No more spending every weekend for a month doing nothing but making the decoration.  No more being the one ‘directing traffic.’  No more using my driveway as the work area.  No more storing most of the partially completed decorations and construction materials inside and outside my house.

The decoration is absolutely beautiful.  We did a wonderful job.  But it wasn’t worth giving up every weekend for the entire month of November.

And tomorrow I have to go to work.  All Saints is having something called the Alternative Christmas Market from 8 am to 3 pm.  Various non-profit groups sell little chachki’s and cards that you give as gifts.  Groups like Habitat for Humanity where you help to build houses, Union Station (a homeless shelter) where you help feed/house the homeless, Young & Healthy where you help provide medical services to kids who have no insurance.  You get a card or a pin or some other item that you give with a note saying what the contribution was for.  Anyhow, I’m working the credit card machine from 8 to noon.  At least I get to do it sitting down.

Set the TiVo to tape a Christmas show I wanted to watch tonight since I’m sure I’ll fall asleep before it’s over at 11 pm.  Or I may decide just to go to bed and watch it later since I have to get up at 5:30 am tomorrow.

It’s pretty bad when you wind up getting up earlier on both Saturday and Sunday than you normally do during the week.
