I don’t think I’ve been this tired in ages.  Patrick set up one of the shade structures from Burning Man in the driveway and I worked out there all weekend on our new Christmas street decoration.  Out of 34 homes on the street, 7 were represented with a total of 10 residents who helped out with the painting, tracing, and hauling the giant stars all over the driveway.  Last weekend about 8 homes (14 residents) showed up.  Needless to say, I’m pissed!

We have 2 more work parties scheduled for next weekend.  I’ve written up a flyer and will be going door to door this week distributing it.  I don’t understand how people can just disregard helping out and then accept the decoration without feeling a huge amount of embarrassment when they didn’t help with the work.  I suggested we charge those who didn’t help out an additional amount of money, but that was vetoed.  My next suggestion will be that we have a party on the night they give out the block awards for all the people who worked on the decorations.  We’ll probably have some money left over from the fee we collected, so that should fund the party.  Better than nothing.

This decoration better last as long as the previous one (8 years), ’cause I don’t plan on doing this again.  The next time this happens I plan on being too old to be able to help out–whether I am or not!
