What a week it’s been!

Started out with Patrick beginning his new job and life out on his own in his own place. He made it through the first week after three shopping trips providing him with a new wardrobe of dress pants, various styles and colors of shirts and a few new ties. He seems to feel good about the job and believes they are happy with his performance thus far.

Life on his own is taking shape for Patrick with his most important personal items moved out–his computer, tv, TiVo and and other electronic items. He’s also taken books and clothes, but still has lots more to deal with here. I expect that will happen, but don’t imagine it will be real soon. I have so much to do right now, though, that it really doesn’t matter to me. I’m content to just shut the doors to the rooms where his stuff is currently being housed and just not worry about it.

Work has been absolutely crazy for me! Our rector announced to the congregation last Sunday that we are being investigated by the IRS with the threat of revoking our tax exempt status. It all centers around a sermon last year from our previous rector just before the 2004 election. If you want to know the details, just Google All Saints Pasadena and you can find our website as well as tons of other sites telling all about it.

As the result of all this, we’ve had every news agency you can think of at the church filming, interviewing, etc. I’ve heard that CBS and the New York Times will be there Sunday–and no doubt the Pasadena Star News, the LA Times and other local news agencies will show up. I’ve heard that even the BBC is planning a story next week! Sunday’s sermon title is something about the IRS going to church.

On top of all this brouhaha, the computer in my office decided to die on Tuesday! Normally this would be pretty bad, but this week I had to do not only my normal tasks but also had to send off payroll for 75 employees! The diagnosis from Dell was that I needed a new motherboard…wrong! Turned out to be the CPU. The new CPU didn’t arrive until Thursday mid-morning. Fortunately, our sysadmin and I came up with a way of borrowing another computer and swapping out hard drives, so I was without a computer for only about 1-1/2 days. Nonetheless, it set me back to the point where I was totally stressed for the past two days just trying to get caught up. But the payroll got done (as it always does) and all the bills got paid. Hopefully I’ll get all the other odds and ends I didn’t get to finished up next week.

On top of all this, the CPA for one of my private clients called me early in the week to let me know they needed all kinds of info from 2004 in order to file that client’s tax return by the first of next week! I’d really love to not be doing work for private clients and just have my evenings and weekends for myself, but the extra money really helps right now. Maybe I’ll win the lottery.

Meanwhile, I’m sooo happy that I don’t have to go to work tomorrow! And, the weather is supposed to start getting warmer on Sunday with the temps rising to the 80’s by the first of the week! My kind of weather! Am ready for the doors and windows to be open again in the evenings.
