Off work today thankfully as it is pouring down rain! The pool is filled to the brim and I expect it will overflow if we get the downpours they are predicting. The winds are very strong with hurricane force gusts predicted throughout the day. My lighted arbor at the front of the house (Christmas decoration) was blown over during the night, bending one of the legs. I stood it up this morning, but don’t know how long it will stay upright. A minor inconvenience. So far the roof in the family room is completely dry with no leaks, drips, etc. Hooray!!! Unfortunately, Patrick had to go to work in Orange today. Driving will be unbelievably awful and I pray he’ll take it easy and get home safe tonight. Gotta keep an eye on Murphy as he is not eager to venture outdoors to “take care of business.”

The good news about all this windy/rainy weather is that the tree next door is finally losing all it’s leaves! This should be the last time my gardeners spend most of their time here cleaning leaves from my driveway, yard and flowerbeds! The damn tree has gotten so big though, with no trimming done for many years, that I’m fearful it will fall over onto our property one of these days. Hopefully the current soaking of the ground coupled with high winds don’t cause my worst fear to come true any time soon…

Last week (Thursday night) we had a couple of visitors to the house. As we sat around the dining room table chatting, I heard someone outside the kitchen door. On checking, I found a couple of HUGE racoons grubbing down on Murphy’s food! They were easily twice the size of Murphy! When I turned on the outside light, they scrambled to the backyard stopping at the edge of the pool to get a quick drink. They weren’t all that frightened, taking their time before heading under the back fence into the neighbor’s yard. No more food left outdoors for Murphy…he’ll have to live without midafternoon snacks!
